Overview of position
The Project Officer will support day-to-day information management of explosive ordanace and remanant of war (ERW) by ensuring that required data is systematically collected, validated, analysed and shared to inform operational planning and national coordination. The role will provide GIS support for partner planning, prioritisation and coordination, while promoting the effective operational use of the data systems. Project Officer will focus on operational use, coordination and user support. The PO will also help prepare and submit timely data reports and information products, support coordination mechanisms including the Information Management Working Group (IMWG), and contribute to strengthening the partner’s institutional capacity in information management.
Role objectives
Geographic Information Systems (GIS):
- Produce high-quality thematic hazard area maps of ERW, operational maps, dashboards and other GIS products to support project activities.
- Develop and maintain GIS datasets, web maps and interactive applications using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Experience Builder and related ESRI applications.
- Design, develop and maintain mobile data collection tools using ArcGIS Survey123.
- Conduct spatial analysis to support technical assessments, reporting and evidence-based decision-making.
- Prepare maps, charts and geospatial visualizations for reports, presentations, workshops and donor reporting.
- Support the Technical Advisor in GIS assessments, field activities and technical assignments.
- Provide hands-on technical support to national counterparts on GIS tools and applications during training and mentoring sessions.
- Assist in documenting technical procedures and maintaining project reference materials.
Capacity Development:
- Assist the Technical Advisor in planning, organizing and delivering training programs on GIS, IMSMA Core, Survey123, ArcGIS Online and other information management tools.
- Prepare training materials, presentations, practical exercises and user manuals.
- Provide on-the-job coaching and technical assistance to national counterparts during training and mentoring sessions.
- Support technical workshops by preparing demonstrations, datasets and practical exercises.
- Contribute to documenting lessons learned, training outcomes and good practices.
Information Management and Reporting:
- Compile, clean and analyse project-related datasets for reporting and technical analysis.
- Produce factsheets, infographics, dashboards and other information products.
- Prepare maps, tables, charts and statistical summaries for quarterly, annual and donor reports.
- Maintain project documentation, GIS files, technical datasets and reference materials.
- Translate technical documents, training materials and guidance between English and Somali, and provide interpretation during technical meetings, workshops and trainings, as required.
The following measurable deliverables are expected from this position regularly:
- Quarterly statistical summaries and information products compiled from relevant databases.
- IMWG meeting documentation, including agendas, presentations, minutes, and action point trackers, is produced for each IMWG session.
- Operational and thematic GIS maps are produced to support land release planning, reporting, and stakeholder coordination, updated as required.
- ArcGIS Online dashboards and web mapping applications are maintained and updated every month to reflect current operational data.
- Capacity development sessions delivered to partners, with documentation of training content and participant feedback.
- Translation and proof reading of SOPS, Policies and related documents.
Project reporting
Regular progress reports submitted to the Technical Advisor; programme management, documenting achievements, challenges, and recommended corrective actions.
