Job Description

 

ROLE PURPOSE: 

The Business Development Manager will work with the Head of Business Development to proactively seek out and disseminate information on new funding opportunities for the ongoing response; cultivate excellent relationships with donor agencies, the government, partners and SC Members; and coordinate the development of funding proposals in order to maintain and increase the country office’s portfolio. This role is based in Mogadishu to enable close, sustained engagement with government line ministries, who are playing an increasingly central role in donor funding decisions across Somalia.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

 

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Head of Business Development

Staff reporting to this post: Two PD Coordinators

Role Dimensions:

The Business Development Manager will work with the Head of Business Development to proactively seek out and disseminate information on new funding opportunities for the ongoing response; cultivate excellent relationships with donor agencies, the government, partners and SC Members; and coordinate the development of funding proposals in order to maintain and increase the country office’s portfolio.

Skills and qualifications

Advanced degree in an area of international studies, social development or equivalent

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive work experience in a fundraising environment
  • Substantial and proven experience of coordinating the development of/writing winning proposals with key institutional donors (including FCDO, UN bodies, the World Bank, ECHO, EU, NORAD, private donors, among others).
  • Excellent writing/editing skills and budget development skills, with high attention to detail
  • Highly developed interpersonal, presentation and communication skills to work effectively with other team members/departments, as well as influence, inform and negotiate with partners and donors.
  • Sound personal organisational skills, including time management, ability to meet deadlines, multi-tasking, prioritisation of tasks, and working under pressure
  • Must possess a strong work ethic, have confidence, take initiative and be a self-motivated, enthusiastic team player as well as individual contributor.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written, required.
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children International’s aims, values and principles.
  • Information Communication Technology literate.

Desirable:

  • Somali language proficiency, or demonstrated experience working effectively through interpreters in government settings
  • Prior experience in Somalia or a comparable fragile/conflict-affected humanitarian context
