Duties and Responsibilities
Background: This International Individual Contractor (IIC)- position is located in the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) and based in Mogadishu. Under the overall oversight and leadership of the Principal Security Adviser of UNDSS Integrated Security Workforce in Somalia and the management of the Chief Security Officer, the IIC- Fire Safety Officer will report to the Head of Fire Safety Unit/Chief Security Officer. Duties and Responsibilities: The Fire Safety Officer plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of UNSOS personnel, facilities, and assets by managing fire safety operations, coordinating emergency response, and maintaining compliance with international fire safety standards. The International Individual Contractor will be required to: • Assist the Head of Fire Safety Unit in managing all aspects and supervision of the unit. • Liaise and cooperate with host government fire, disaster relief, and emergency services. • Ensure effective management of a 24/7 Fire Service capable of responding to fire incidents, car accidents, HAZMAT spills, and other emergencies. • Assist in drafting and updating the Fire Safety Plan and Emergency Evacuation Plan; coordinate drills and training sessions. • Supervise and coordinate fire safety activities as per facility-specific Fire Safety Plans. • Coordinate with mission facilities personnel, Fire Safety focal points, and organization management on fire safety issues. • Conduct regular fire risk assessments and inspections; report shortcomings and recommend corrective actions. • Conduct technical assessments/evaluations of Fire Detection and Alarm Systems (FDAS). • Assist in drafting specifications for fire safety equipment and PPE; ensure maintenance and readiness. • Assist in planning and drafting concepts for static installations and systems (FDAS, extinguishing systems, spill basins, etc.). • Maintain and supervise a functional Fire Warden System.
